Practising scales with a metronome
- Start slow. Pick a tempo where you can play the whole scale up and down without a single mistake — often 60 BPM or lower.
- One note per click to begin with. When that feels easy, play two notes per click (eighth notes), then four (sixteenths).
- Speed up in small steps. Add 4–5 BPM only after you can play it cleanly three times in a row.
- Land on the root on beat 1. The accented click helps you hear where the bar starts.
