Fretboard Note Trainer
Learn the notes on the guitar neck one string at a time. Name the highlighted note, or find the note you're asked for. Start with the low E and A strings — that's where the root notes of most chord shapes live.
Shortcuts for learning the fretboard
The notes go A B C D E F G, with one fret between each pair — except B–C and E–F, which sit right next to each other. At the 12th fret (the double dot) everything starts over, one octave higher.
Learn the low E and A strings first. The high e string has the same notes as the low E. And an octave shape helps you find the rest: from the E and A strings, two strings up and two frets higher is the same note an octave above. From the D and G strings it's three frets higher, because of how the B string is tuned.
Next step: see scales on the fretboard or practise licks.
